Ralph Recto\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA\u2014Senate Minority Leader Ralph Recto on Tuesday backed the initiative of Philippine National Police (PNP) to observe zero-tolerance for policemen who exploit the campaign against illegal drugs for extortion.<\/p>\n<p>Recto made this remark after PNP Chief Director General Ronald \u201cBato\u201d Dela Rosa vowed to actively go after scalawag cops.<\/p>\n<p>He said that aside from the all-out-war against illegal drugs, \u201ccleansing\u201d the police ranks should also be made a priority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot have two standards of justice: Soft gloves for policemen who use tokhang to rob, kill or extort while mailed fist against suspected drug users,\u201d Recto said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the PNP should allow its internal mechanism to check abuses, and see to it that these are penalized.<\/p>\n<p>The senator also stressed that there should be a \u201cpublic display of discipline\u201d on those caught committing crimes \u201cin the name of tokhang\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This way, he said, it can serve as a deterrent against similar abuses, and to assure the public that the PNP leadership \u201cis not a coddler of crooks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He further said that a \u201cfew dirty cops\u201d should not sully the name of the PNP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever gains it has achieved in the fight against crime can be cancelled by the mischief of a few bad eggs.
