Dalan\/ PNA)<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA \u2013Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe promised on Thursday to provide maximum support to make East Asia Summit and the ASEAN-related meetings \u2018a tremendous success\u2019 this year.<\/p>\n<p>Abe made the assurance in a joint statement with President Rodrigo Duterte after the summit meeting held at the Malacanang Palace shortly after the Japanese leader arrived for a two-day official visit in the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We support the ASEAN in its attempt to strengthen unity and centrality and to develop as a free and open community,&#8221; Abe said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From such a perspective, we will provide maximum support to make the East Asia Summit and the ASEAN-Related Meetings a tremendous success,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>The East Asia Summit (EAS) meetings are held after the annual ASEAN Leaders\u2019 Meetings which the Philippines will host this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Philippines\u2019 chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) 2017 coincides with the celebration of 50th anniversary of the 10-nation ASEAN.<\/p>\n<p>ASEAN countries include the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Brunei, Myanmar, Singapore, Cambodia and last year\u2019s ASEAN Summit host Laos.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from ASEAN countries, EAS members are Japan, Australia, China, India, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea and United States.<\/p>\n<p>During the summit meeting, Abe and President Duterte agreed to cooperate \u201chand-in-hand for the stability and prosperity of the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last Wednesday, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Martin Andanar said the ASEAN 2017 will serve as perfect occasion to promote the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>Andanar said over 100 summits and conferences will be held nationwide including the ASEAN Ministers meeting in April; ASEAN Head of States Summit in August; and the ASEAN Head of States Plus Three in November.<\/p>\n<p>Andanar said at least PHP15.9 billion will be spent for the hosting of the ASEAN Summit 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The kick-off event of the ASEAN 2017 will be held on January 15 at the SMX event center in Davao City where delegates from ASEAN member countries will attend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA \u2013Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe promised on Thursday to provide maximum support to make East Asia Summit and the &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":84980,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1482,16,95,483],"tags":[595,13510,343,13509],"class_list":["post-84908","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-breaking","category-news","category-news-ph","category-politics","tag-asean","tag-east-asia-summit","tag-philippines","tag-prime-minister-shinzo-abe","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/84908","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=84908"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/84908\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/84980"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=84908"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=84908"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=84908"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
