Gosling is also in contention for a Screen Actors&#8217; Guild Award on Jan. 29.<\/p>\n<p>Philosophical sci-fi yarn \u201cArrival\u201d by Quebec director Denis Villeneuve and psychological thriller \u201cNocturnal Animals\u201d have nine nominations each for the U.K prizes, known as BAFTAs. The contenders were announced at the British academy&#8217;s London headquarters by actors Dominic Cooper and Sophie Turner.<\/p>\n<p>Best-picture nominees are \u201cLa La Land\u201d; \u201cArrival\u201d&#8217;; welfare-state drama \u201cI, Daniel Blake\u201d; Miami coming-of-age story \u201cMoonlight\u201d; and soul-baring domestic drama \u201cManchester by the Sea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Best-actor nominees are Andrew Garfield for \u201cHacksaw Ridge\u201d; Casey Affleck for \u201cManchester by the Sea\u201d; Jake Gyllenhaal for \u201cNocturnal Animals\u201d; Gosling for \u201cLa La Land\u201d; and Viggo Mortensen for \u201cCaptain Fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Best-actress contenders are Amy Adams for \u201cArrival\u201d; Emily Blunt for \u201cThe Girl on the Train\u201d; Stone for \u201cLa La Land\u201d&#8217;; Meryl Streep for \u201cFlorence Foster Jenkins&#8221;; and Natalie Portman for \u201cJackie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among supporting actor and actress nominees are Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel, both for \u201cLion\u201d; Jeff Bridges for \u201cHell or High Water\u201d; Hugh Grant for \u201cFlorence Foster Jenkins\u201d; and Viola Davis for \u201cFences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Best-director nominations went to Denis Villeneuve for \u201cArrival\u201d; Ken Loach for \u201cI, Daniel Blake\u201d; Damien Chazelle for \u201cLa La land\u201d; Kenneth Lonergan for \u201cManchester by the Sea\u201d; and Tom Ford for \u201cNocturnal Animals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Winners of the British trophies will be announced at London&#8217;s Royal Albert Hall on Feb. 12, two weeks before the Oscars.<\/p>\n<p>The BAFTAs differ from their U.S. counterpart in having a separate category for best British film.
