{"id":825,"date":"2014-01-22T21:17:04","date_gmt":"2014-01-23T05:17:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/?p=825"},"modified":"2014-01-22T21:42:47","modified_gmt":"2014-01-23T05:42:47","slug":"vietnam-confirms-1st-human-bird-flu-death-in-9-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2014\/01\/22\/vietnam-confirms-1st-human-bird-flu-death-in-9-months\/","title":{"rendered":"Vietnam confirms 1st human bird flu death in 9 months"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/shutterstock_171315251.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-846\" alt=\"shutterstock_171315251\" src=\"http:\/\/66.147.244.209\/~canadiu3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/shutterstock_171315251.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/shutterstock_171315251.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/shutterstock_171315251-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>HANOI, Vietnam\u2014Vietnam has confirmed its first human death from bird flu in nine months.<\/p>\n<p>To Duc Sinh, director of Preventive Medicine Center in southern Binh Phuoc province, said Tuesday that a 52-year-old man died of the H5N1 strain of bird flu on Jan. 18 on the way to a hospital in southern hub of Ho Chi Minh City.<\/p>\n<p>Sinh said the man developed a fever and other symptoms on Jan. 11 after he slaughtered a duck bought in the village where chickens died of unknown reasons several days later.<\/p>\n<p>Health workers have disinfected the village, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Vietnam\u2019s last human bird flu death was reported in April last year.<\/p>\n<p>Bird flu remains hard for people to catch, with most people sickened after being in close contact with infected poultry, but experts have long feared it could spark a pandemic if it mutates into a form that spreads easily among people.<\/p>\n<p>In Manila, agriculture officials said Tuesday that the\u00a0Philippines\u00a0would continue a yearslong ban on the importation of bird and poultry meat from China after Chinese authorities reported the latest outbreak of bird flu in their country.<\/p>\n<p>Philippine\u00a0Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala said in a statement that China\u2019s Animal Disease Control Center reported last month an outbreak in three villages in northern Heibei province.<\/p>\n<p>The ban includes Chinese poultry used to prepare the popular Peking Duck dish, according to Simeon Amurao of the\u00a0Philippine\u00a0Bureau of Animal Industry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HANOI, Vietnam\u2014Vietnam has confirmed its first human death from bird flu in nine months.
