We talked about how we can help one another,\u201d Duterte said in Filipino during his visit to typhoon-stricken Cagayan.<\/p>\n<p>Both leaders asserted their countries ownership over the disputed waters, according to Duterte.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe (Xi) said, \u2018This is really ours historically and we won\u2019t give up on this.\u2019 I said, \u2018especially us because we won in court,\u2019\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Duterte\u2019s mention of the United Nation\u2019s Arbitral Tribunal award that affirmed the Philippines\u2019 interest over another disputed territory, Spratly\u2019s Island, Duterte said, \u201cI will not insist now, I will not impose now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The arbitral tribunal on July also disproved China\u2019s historic claim to the Island.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Tribunal concluded that there was no legal basis for China to claim historic rights to resources within the sea areas falling within the \u2018nine-dash line,\u201d the award read.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte also ruled out the idea of going to war in order to resolve the dispute.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will not go to war now.
