{"id":79433,"date":"2016-07-08T11:16:19","date_gmt":"2016-07-08T15:16:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=79433"},"modified":"2016-08-03T00:21:10","modified_gmt":"2016-08-03T04:21:10","slug":"jason-kenney-announces-bid-unite-albertans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2016\/07\/08\/jason-kenney-announces-bid-unite-albertans\/","title":{"rendered":"Jason Kenney announces bid to unite Albertans"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Thunder rolling as Valleyview residents came out to hear about plan to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UniteAlberta?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@UniteAlberta<\/a> as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/UnityTruckTour?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#UnityTruckTour<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gs0c5W41A4\">pic.twitter.com\/gs0c5W41A4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jason Kenney (@jkenney) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jkenney\/status\/760616816641134592?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 2, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>CALGARY \u2013 Jason Kenney today announced his intention to run for leader of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta in the upcoming leadership race and unite Albertans to defeat the NDP in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have decided to seek the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta, seeking an explicit mandate to unite with the Wildrose Party, and all like-minded Albertans, so we can defeat the NDP and put this province back on the right track,\u201d Kenney said.<\/p>\n<p>This afternoon Kenney rallied hundreds of supporters in northeastern Calgary to support his bid for leader in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must fight the ideological agenda of this accidental NDP government to limit the damage they do to our province now,\u201d said Kenny. \u201cAnd we must do everything within our power to eliminate the risk of a second NDP term, which would be catastrophic to the long-term future of Alberta.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kenney is also seeking an open and democratic path to unity indicating that details of his plan will be released on Thursday, July 7.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must never repeat what transpired in December, 2014.\u00a0 Unity must be pursued and achieved openly and transparently, not through secret backroom deals,\u201d Kenney said. \u201cAnd grassroots members must have the final say on any proposed agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur province and many of her people are going through a time of adversity.
