font-size:14px; line-height:17px;\" datetime=\"2016-06-22T20:26:20+00:00\">Jun 22, 2016 at 1:26pm PDT<\/time><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>PARIS \u2013 The world\u2019s fashion watchers cried \u201cBonjour Paris\u201d Wednesday as they bid good-bye to Milan and headed to the City of Light for the last installment of menswear shows for spring-summer 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some highlights:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Valentino\u2019s unfinished business<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Twenty-four-year-old Chinese superstar actor Yang Yang hit the front row for Valentino, alongside \u201cAmerican Psycho\u201d musical star Benjamin Walker.<\/p>\n<p>The American actor rocked a check Valentino suit that hit a dapper note very much in keeping with the collection\u2019s opulent venue \u2013 the 19th century mansion Hotel Salomon de Rothschild.<\/p>\n<p>The show was all about the \u201cunfinished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Faded denim cowboy shirts and jackets had pockets ripped off to produce colour contrasts; and random-looking intarsias on coffee cup brown coats \u2013 and on oversize outerwear \u2013 had a deconstructed effect.<\/p>\n<p>Mottled camouflage prints on a slim fitting sweater, meanwhile, had a blurry incomplete feel.<\/p>\n<p>Camouflage is now a signature for Valentino\u2019s designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, who have only been doing men\u2019s fashion for a few years.<\/p>\n<p>While many of these looks made the \u201cincomplete\u201d statement in a creative way \u2013 with random badges and accessorizing motifs \u2013 the styles greatly benefited when the designers widened their repertoire: Like a standout black coat with studs sprinkled, almost haphazardly, on the collar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The art of the invitation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The age of email and rising ecological awareness doesn\u2019t seem to have left a mark on the fashion industry\u2019s antiquated system of invitations.<\/p>\n<p>Season after season, gasoline-guzzling couriers crisscross Paris to deliver personally to fashion insiders the ever-elaborate, often hand-made, show invites.<\/p>\n<p>Top houses vie for the wackiest or most imaginative idea.<\/p>\n<p>Louis Vuitton and Dior Homme employ trusted calligraphers who immortalize the names of each guest in baroque ink swirls \u2013 works of art that usually end up thrown on the runway floor immediately after the presentation.<\/p>\n<p>This season, an invite for a jewelry house show, Surplus Sound System, was a 7-inch black vinyl record, with the show details on the B-side. It drove home the point that old school is the style of choice for Paris fashion.<\/p>\n<p>The invitation to Dries Van Noten\u2019s show was a heavy tablet of pottery with the information stamped on.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lemaire<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The trend for the outdoors and the utilitarian has been seen in myriad Milan spring shows \u2013 such as in Prada\u2019s backpacks, Moncler\u2019s multi-pocketed clothes and Gucci\u2019s rainwear.<\/p>\n<p>It also infused Christophe Lemaire\u2019s designs for his eponymous Paris-based menswear house.<\/p>\n<p>And the City of Light, which has seen historic flooding and torrential downpours burst the banks of the Seine River in recent weeks, is one city that could do with a summer raincoat.<\/p>\n<p>A hardy long golden brown, with zippers, flapping lapels and a large asymmetrical pocket opened the Wednesday collection \u2013 setting the out-in-the-elements theme.
