{"id":75363,"date":"2016-05-04T04:05:37","date_gmt":"2016-05-04T08:05:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=75363"},"modified":"2016-05-04T04:06:26","modified_gmt":"2016-05-04T08:06:26","slug":"dole-imposes-8-12-working-hours-tv-industry-abs-cbn-questions-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2016\/05\/04\/dole-imposes-8-12-working-hours-tv-industry-abs-cbn-questions-ruling\/","title":{"rendered":"DOLE imposes 8-12 working hours in TV industry, ABS-CBN questions ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_75364\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75364\" style=\"width: 611px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/172632_196309637055506_784465_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-75364\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/172632_196309637055506_784465_o.jpg\" alt=\"Television network ABS-CBN logo\" width=\"611\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/172632_196309637055506_784465_o.jpg 611w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/172632_196309637055506_784465_o-255x300.jpg 255w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 611px) 100vw, 611px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-75364\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Television network ABS-CBN logo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA \u2013 With the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) imposing an 8 to 12 hours working period for film and television actors and production staff effective last week, media giant ABS-CBN questioned the sudden implementation of the mandate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe day that the DOLE issued the advisory was the same day it hurriedly met with broadcast management representatives \u2013 a meeting attended only by ABS-CBN \u2013 to request data that would help them understand the TV industry,\u201d the network said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn that same meeting, DOLE announced it would conduct site visits in the first week of May and draft a Department Order in the second week of May \u2013 which would then be presented to industry stakeholders for comment,\u201d they continued.<\/p>\n<p>ABS-CBN clarified, however, that they were \u2018not against improving the working conditions of everyone in the industry\u2019 but believed that DOLE should have further consulted various television networks and production companies before coming up with the labor advisory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The television network] has always championed and supported any development, whether initiated by the Department of Labor and Employment or not, that ensures the health and well-being of its workers and talents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Due to the lack of consultation and sudden implementation, the television station has then been \u2018constrained to seek a temporary restraining order (TRO) from the Regional Trial Courts (RTC) of Quezon City\u2019 against DOLE\u2019s mandate \u2018defining the working conditions in the movie and television industry.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny meaningful change must factor in the ideas and opinions of stakeholders and field experts for it to protect both the welfare of our workers and the sustainability of the industry.
