GMA Network proudly took home 4 world medals\u00a0and 5 finalist certificates at the 2016 New York Festivals, which also had\u00a0Kapuso broadcast journalist Kara David as one of the award presenters at the awards ceremony held in Las Vegas April 19.\u00a0GMA was the only Philippine company with medal winners this year.<\/p>\n

The network\u2019s\u00a0News and Public Affairs Group was responsible for\u00a0the 4 medalists in various categories.<\/p>\n

I-Witness, the country\u2019s longest running documentary program, won the bronze medal\u00a0in the Community Portraits category for \u201cDorm 12,\u201d where David featured aging and forgotten inmates at the Correctional Institute for Women.<\/p>\n

Investigative news magazine\u00a0Reporter\u2019s Notebook\u00a0won a bronze award in the Social Issues category for tackling urban migration in\u00a0its \u201cHikahos sa Lungsod\u201d episode, reported by Maki Pulido.<\/p>\n

Front Row\u2019s \u201cMaestra Salbabida\u201d took home a bronze in the Community Service Programs category, depicting a teacher in Mindoro who crosses rivers using a makeshift floating device to reach the barrio where she teaches.<\/p>\n

GMA News TV\u2019s Reel Time, on the other hand, earned the bronze award inthe Human Concerns category for its \u201cIsang Paa sa Hukay\u201d documentary on small-scale mining operations in Camarines Norte.<\/p>\n

David, meanwhile, was the only media professional from Asia named as one of this year\u2019s award presenters, which include prominent international media executives, talk show hosts and content creators.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, three GMA News and Public Affairs programs received finalist certificates: Philippine TV\u2019s first-ever bayaniserye Ilustrado, Bawal ang Pasaway kay Mareng Winnie and Brigada while two projects from the network’s Program Support Department were also shortlisted:\u00a0Ilustrado\u2019s opening billboard and GMA News TV\u2019s Father\u2019s Day plug.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
