Management Council (PDRRMC) declared a state of calamity in Negros Occidental Thursday after damage and losses to crops and animals due to El Ni\u00f1o reached more than P400 million as of April 20.<\/p>\n<p>The PDRRMC, in a meeting presided by Governor Alfredo Mara\u00f1on Jr. here, unanimously approved the declaration.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the towns of Hinobaan, Pontevedra and Hinigaran, and Sipalay City already declared state of calamity after a prolonged shortage of water supply in farms due to the absence of rain, a report of the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division said.<\/p>\n<p>As of Wednesday, damage and losses to rice, corn, high- value commercial crops (HVCC), and tilapia, particularly due to dry spell and pest, have been pegged at P221.<\/p>\n<div
