OTTAWA\u2014Former prime minister Stephen Harper is paying tribute to his old pal Jim Flaherty.<\/p>\n

Harper has taken to Twitter to say that St. Patrick’s Day reminds him of his friend, who died two years ago next month.<\/p>\n

The post includes a photo of Harper lifting a glass of Guinness beer while Flaherty smiles beside him.<\/p>\n

Flaherty was Harper’s first and longest-lasting finance minister.<\/p>\n

He died unexpectedly in 2014, just after leaving the finance portfolio.<\/p>\n

The two men were close and Harper was close to tears several times in the days leading up to his emotional eulogy at the funeral.<\/p>\n

His Twitter tribute to Flaherty ends: “May the luck of the Irish be with you all today!<\/p>\n
