The Philippine Embassy in Vientiane, in cooperation \u00a0with the Filipino community in Laos, organized a half day \u00a0kite-making activity \u00a0for kids on March 15 as part of its year-long Sentro Rizal activities.<\/p>\n

Adopting the title \u201cSaranggola ni Pepe,\u201d the activity started off with\u00a0 by Mr. Giovanni S. Villafuerte, a Filipino volunteer in one of the Laos-based non-profit associations narrating \u00a0an episode in the life of Jose Rizal , whose nickname was \u201cPepe,\u201d particularly on how he has managed to recover a lost kite while playing as a child. Video slides were shown as part of the story-telling by Mr. Villafuerte.<\/p>\n

Filipino community children enjoy an afternoon of \u201cSaranggola ni Pepe\u201d activity.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Mr. Villafuerte then guided the Filipino children in kite-making.\u00a0 Materials such as bamboo sticks, old newspapers, strings, Japanese paper, paste and plastic straws were made available to the kids.\u00a0 The children literally took to the floor and started fashioning out their own kites with their distinct\u00a0 colors, shapes and other designs, with \u00a0the music of Celeste Legaspi\u2019s \u201cSaranggola ni Pepe\u201d played in the background.<\/p>\n

The activity ended with a flying of their hand-made kites, which the kids thoroughly enjoyed, with \u00a0their parents or guardians, as well as Embassy staff, assisting them.<\/p>\n

The event was capped with a warm bowl of guinataang kamote at saging<\/i> that was savored by all.<\/p>\n
