{"id":69202,"date":"2016-01-20T00:54:05","date_gmt":"2016-01-20T05:54:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=69202"},"modified":"2016-01-20T00:54:05","modified_gmt":"2016-01-20T05:54:05","slug":"president-aquino-signs-sk-reform-bill-into-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2016\/01\/20\/president-aquino-signs-sk-reform-bill-into-law\/","title":{"rendered":"President Aquino signs SK reform bill into law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20148\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20148\" style=\"width: 2048px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/PNOY-Noynoy-Aquino-SONA.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20148\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20148\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/PNOY-Noynoy-Aquino-SONA.jpg\" alt=\"President Benigno Aquino III (Photo by Ryan Lim \/ Malacanang Photo Bureau)\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1391\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/PNOY-Noynoy-Aquino-SONA.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/PNOY-Noynoy-Aquino-SONA-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/PNOY-Noynoy-Aquino-SONA-1024x695.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20148\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">President Benigno Aquino III (Photo by Ryan Lim \/ Malacanang Photo Bureau)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA \u00a0\u2013 President Benigno Aquino III has signed the Sanggunian Kabataan Reform Act of 2015 into law, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Coloma said the President signed the law or Republic Act No. 10742 last Jan. 15.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe SK reform law seeks to strengthen and empower the SK and transform it into a useful conduit for youth involvement in community development,\u201d Coloma said in a text message to the media.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new law, relatives of elected or appointed officials up to the 2nd civil degree of consanguinity or affinity are prohibited from seeking SK posts.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from its anti-dynasty provision, the new law adjusts age limit of SK officials from 15-17 to 18-24 years old, making them legally capable of entering into contracts and be held accountable and liable for their actions.<\/p>\n<p>Sangguniang Kabataan officials will now be required to undergo leadership training programs to expose them to the best practices in governance and guide their development as leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The new law also mandates the creation of the Local Youth Development Council (LYDC), a council that will support the SK and ensure the participation of more youth through youth organizations.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">The LYDC will be composed of representatives from the different youth organizations in the community \u2013 student councils, church and youth faith groups, youth-serving organizations, and community-based youth groups.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
