The event attracts numerous celebrities, dignitaries and elected officials.<\/p>\n<p>Each year the event helps raise funds for students who attend Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Spelman College and the Interdenominational Theology Center at the Atlanta University Center.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the ball generated $1 million for UNCF and its 38 member colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p>Gill was a member of the R&amp;B groups New Edition and LSG.
