MANILA \u2013 Singer-songwriter Rico Blanco has an early Christmas gift for his Filipino fans this Christmas as he released his latest solo album \u2013 \u201cDating Gawi<\/em>\u201d \u2013 made especially for them.<\/p>\n

Blanco\u2019s album featured tracks which oozed with local rock and roll vibes and were meticulously crafted with self-imposed rules in few weeks\u2019 time. The lyrics were all written in Filipino as he was certain on whom he wanted his listeners to be.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I have an idea that I get excited about and songs that I wanted to share, that\u2019s what pushes me to record an album\u2026 Nu<\/em>\u2019ng nagsusulat ako<\/em>, kung sa<\/em>\u2019n lang mapunta <\/em>\u2019yung kanta<\/em> (When I was writing, I allowed the song to present itself),\u201d the artist said in an interview as reported by the Manila Bulletin.<\/p>\n

\u201cMinsan<\/em> (Sometimes) I start with the first verse and I don\u2019t know what the song is going to be about\u2026 Minsan<\/em> (Sometimes) I go, \u2018Teka lang<\/em> (Wait), no you can\u2019t do that. You have to make it work. It\u2019s hard doing conventional stuff and not being able to rely on fancy tricks,\u201d he further said.<\/p>\n

Blanco shared how some of his friends in the music industry, including Raimund Marasignan, Buddy Zabala and Roll Martinez, influenced his songs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe little secret I had that I didn\u2019t tell them was, while I was writing the songs, I was thinking of them playing the songs.<\/p>\n

\u2018Yun din ang nag<\/em>–inspire sa<\/em>\u2019kin<\/em> (That\u2019s what inspired me as well)\u2026 When you\u2019re working with these guys, you can come up with one album a month,\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n

Dating Gawi has been Blanco\u2019s third studio album, following \u201cGalactic Fiestamatik\u201d and \u201cYour Universe.\u201d With bands releasing new songs, he figured it was time for him to come up with a third album.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor this album, gusto ko para rito<\/em> (sa Pilipinas<\/em>) \u2019to eh.<\/em> Wala akong iniisip na international release<\/em>, \u2019yung ma<\/em>–pick up<\/em> (\u2019yung album<\/em>) sa ibang bansa<\/em> (For this album, I want this to be for the Philippines. I\u2019m not thinking of an international release, on the album being picked up in other countries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
