{"id":67173,"date":"2015-12-12T22:46:02","date_gmt":"2015-12-13T03:46:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=67173"},"modified":"2015-12-12T22:46:02","modified_gmt":"2015-12-13T03:46:02","slug":"ferry-cancellations-blackouts-as-winter-storm-lashes-b-c-south-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2015\/12\/12\/ferry-cancellations-blackouts-as-winter-storm-lashes-b-c-south-coast\/","title":{"rendered":"Ferry cancellations, blackouts as winter storm lashes B.C. south coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Untitled-design-2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-65579\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-65579\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Untitled-design-2.jpg\" alt=\"Untitled design-2\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Untitled-design-2.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Untitled-design-2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>VANCOUVER\u2014More wet and windy weather is slamming British Columbia&#8217;s south coast, forcing ferry cancellations and blackouts.<\/p>\n<p>Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for all of Vancouver Island as well as Metro Vancouver, the Sunshine Coast, Fraser Valley and Howe Sound.<\/p>\n<p>The federal agency warned a powerful low pressure system will bring southeast winds of 60 to 90 kilometres per hour to the inner south coast beginning Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>It said the wind will veer to the southwest this evening and gradually ease overnight.<\/p>\n<p>More than 20,000 customers were without power on Vancouver Island at one point, with Victoria, Nanaimo, Courtenay, Duncan and North Cowichan especially hard hit.<\/p>\n<p>The high winds also forced BC Ferries to cancel sailings on several routes, including between Horseshoe Bay and Nanaimo and between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay.<\/p>\n<p>Just after 6 p.m. BC Ferries announced that all remaining sailings between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay had been cancelled for the rest of the night.<\/p>\n<p>Snowfall warnings were in effect for parts of the Southern Interior and Kootenay Boundary regions, with 15 to 25 centimetres expected.<\/p>\n<p>The weather was good news for North Shore mountains, with Grouse Mountain reporting 21 centimetres of fresh snow in the past 24 hours as of Saturday night.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VANCOUVER\u2014More wet and windy weather is slamming British Columbia&#8217;s south coast, forcing ferry cancellations and blackouts.
