{"id":65778,"date":"2015-11-26T08:06:28","date_gmt":"2015-11-26T14:06:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=65778"},"modified":"2015-11-26T09:34:18","modified_gmt":"2015-11-26T15:34:18","slug":"65778","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2015\/11\/26\/65778\/","title":{"rendered":"PCGG: Marcos jewels were not replaced by fake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">MANILA, PHILIPPINES &#8211; The Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) denied the rumors that the jewelry collection had been replaced while stored at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and said that jewelries are intact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">PCGG commissioner Andrew de Castro said that the jewelry collection, under their custody, has been taken care of and been appraising by foreign experts from rival auction houses Christie\u2019s and Sotheby\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">De Castro also denied the rumors of replacing the jewels to fake ones. The appraisers have not found anything when they inspected the so-called Hawaii Collection on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Hawaii Collection consist of around 300 pieces of jewelries and other luxury items which were confiscated from the family of the late Ferdinand Marcos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">By the virtue of an agreement between former first lady Imelda Marcos and the PCGG, the collection was later declared to be under their custody.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Roumeliotes, and the Malaca\u00f1ang collections, which are other collection of the Marcoses, are under the custody of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Office of the President.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According in a report by Janvic Mateo of The Philippine Star, the Roumeliotes collection, composed of only around 60 pieces of jewelry but deemed to be the most expensive among the three, was seized from alleged Marcos crony Demetriou Roumeliotes as he tried to smuggle it out of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">But was forfeited later in favor of the BOC for violating the Tariff and Customs Code.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Malaca\u00f1ang collection have more than 400 pieces of jewelries and other luxury items that were left in Malaca\u00f1ang after the EDSA Revolution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For three decades, the collections was under the custody of the BSP and been stored in a high-security vault.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA, PHILIPPINES &#8211; The Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) denied the rumors that the jewelry collection had been replaced &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":65779,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1145,95],"tags":[249],"class_list":["post-65778","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-headline","category-news-ph","tag-rewrite","mauthors-mavelle-p-durian","mauthors-philippine-canadian-inquirer"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/65778","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=65778"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/65778\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/65779"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=65778"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=65778"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=65778"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
