{"id":64481,"date":"2015-11-10T04:34:20","date_gmt":"2015-11-10T10:34:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=64481"},"modified":"2015-11-10T04:38:04","modified_gmt":"2015-11-10T10:38:04","slug":"figure-skaters-and-ice-hockey-players-set-to-blaze-the-rink","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2015\/11\/10\/figure-skaters-and-ice-hockey-players-set-to-blaze-the-rink\/","title":{"rendered":"Figure skaters and ice-hockey players set to blaze the rink"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Busy weeks ahead at the Mall of Asia ice-skating rink as the Filipino figure skaters and ice-hockey players stage two big events on ice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">SM Lifestyle Entertainment Inc. sports development head CJ Suarez announced the schedule of events during the Tuesday\u2019s Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at Shakey\u2019s Malate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">First on tap is the International Ice-Hockey tournament from Nov. 25 to 28 at the brand-new skating rink located between the MOA Arena and SMX Convention Center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Then on Dec. 1 and 2, the Philippine National Figure Skating Championships will take place, featuring over 40 of the country\u2019s finest figure skaters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThese are two major skating events that will coincide with the opening of the new skating rink,\u201d said Suarez, winner of the 2003 bowling World Cup.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Also gracing the forum presented by San Miguel Corp., Accel, Shakey\u2019s, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. are figure skaters Sofia Isabel Victoria Guidote and Jules Alpe, Federation of Ice Hockey Leagues secretary-general Peter Tigaronita, team manager Francois Gautier, and SMLEI public relations and advertising manager Stephanie Henares.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Guidote, a 13-year-old figure skater, expects the people to watch the event so they can see \u201chow good the locals are\u201d and it\u2019s the first international ice-hockey event in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Gautier said the ice-hockey event will be divided into four categories \u2013 10-under (squirt), 12-under (peewee) and 16-under (bantam) and under-25 (men\u2019s).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There will be teams from Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia to challenge the Filipinos, who are slowly making a name in ice-hockey in the Asian region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe have high expectations for our teams. The speed is there. Our players have been training hard almost everyday.
