And an eight-person jury has been hearing details about contracts, copyright laws in the United States and Egypt and a host of other issues they&#8217;ll have to entangle once they begin deliberations this week.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a look back at some interesting moments in the trial:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Origins of \u201cBig Pimpin\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Carter told jurors he was about to leave a collaboration session with Mosley in 1999 when the producer played him a beat that included the flute notes from \u201cKhosara Khosara.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rapper was hooked. \u201cIt didn\u2019t sound like anything else on the radio,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Within hours, they had recorded much of the raunchy ode to a promiscuous lifestyle, and the song went on to become his first major hit.<\/p>\n<p>Carter liked it so much, he ponied up  million to shoot the music video \u2013 an unheard of sum for him to spend on a video, he said.<\/p>\n<div style=\"position:absolute;left:-99195px;\"> buy bactrim online <a href=\"https:\/\/jayhawkfoot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/jpg\/bactrim.html\">https:\/\/jayhawkfoot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/jpg\/bactrim.html<\/a> no prescription pharmacy <\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>He said he still enjoys the song and still performs it. \u201cI like the song. It\u2019s pretty good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rapper, mogul, witness (and more)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Carter struck a humble tone throughout much of his testimony, but when asked by his attorney to list his many professions, he rattled off at least eight types of businesses, including rapping, a clothing line, a media label, sports agency and restaurants and nightclubs.<\/p>\n<p>His attorney, Andrew Bart, reminded him of one more. \u201cYou run a music streaming service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI forgot about that,\u201d Carter replied when reminded of his streaming music service Tidal. \u201cThank you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Timbaland in action<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Musical instruments are a key feature of music copyright trials, with witnesses employing keyboards and other instruments to play music as it\u2019s depicted on sheet music.<\/p>\n<p>Mosley gave his own demonstration, using an Ensoniq ASR-10 keyboard he said he\u2019s used throughout his career to show jurors how he starts out creating beats for a new song.<\/p>\n<p>The producer who\u2019s worked with artists as varied as Eric Clapton, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Madonna and a host of hip hop acts, started by demonstrating \u201cbeatboxing.\u201d His zeal to display the technique of \u201cmaking music with my mouth\u201d elicited laughter in the courtroom.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dueling experts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although there isn\u2019t a dispute that some notes from \u201cKhosara Khosara\u201d appear in \u201cBig Pimpin,\u2019\u201d both sides have presented experts on how important the notes are in the rap song.<\/p>\n<p>Plaintiff\u2019s expert Scott Marcus said Hamdi\u2019s notes were a significant part of \u201cBig Pimpin\u2019,\u201d although U.S. District Judge Christina A. Snyder struck his testimony that they were the \u201cmain theme\u201d of the rap song.<\/p>\n<p>Defense expert Lawrence Ferrara however called the notes \u201ctrite, minimal, fragmentary\u201d to \u201cBig Pimpin\u2019\u201d and that most of the Hamdi notes are essential musical building blocks that can\u2019t be copyrighted.<\/p>\n<div style=\"position:absolute;left:-99195px;\"> buy elavil online <a href=\"https:\/\/jayhawkfoot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/jpg\/elavil.html\">https:\/\/jayhawkfoot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/jpg\/elavil.html<\/a> no prescription pharmacy <\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Other experts have spoken about copyright and contract laws as they pertain to Egypt and the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Snyder has noted the importance of expert testimony in the case, saying it will inform her rulings about how the case will be framed for jurors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More than a \u2018Papercut\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Band Linkin Park has also been dragged into the case because they recorded a mashup of their song \u201cPapercut\u201d set to music from \u201cBig Pimpin\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The combination wasn\u2019t the biggest hit from the 2004 album \u201cCollision Course,\u201d which featured mashups of Linkin Park and Jay Z songs, but did force the band&#8217;s bassist David Farrell into court on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Farrell was designated by the rest of the band to represent them and describe how the mashup was created.
