{"id":62606,"date":"2015-10-08T12:59:32","date_gmt":"2015-10-08T16:59:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=62606"},"modified":"2016-04-02T23:34:17","modified_gmt":"2016-04-03T03:34:17","slug":"actor-randy-quaid-detained-in-montreal-pending-irb-hearing-on-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2015\/10\/08\/actor-randy-quaid-detained-in-montreal-pending-irb-hearing-on-thursday\/","title":{"rendered":"Actor Randy Quaid detained in Montreal pending IRB hearing on Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_62607\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62607\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/randy-evi-quaid.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-62607\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/randy-evi-quaid.jpg\" alt=\"American actor Randy Quaid and wife Evi (Photo from the Santa Barbara County)\" width=\"650\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/randy-evi-quaid.jpg 650w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/randy-evi-quaid-300x185.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62607\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">American actor Randy Quaid and wife Evi (Photo from the Santa Barbara County)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MONTREAL \u2013 American actor Randy Quaid has been arrested again and is scheduled to appear before the Immigration and Refugee Board in Montreal on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The circumstances behind the arrest \u2013 his second in Montreal this year \u2013 are unclear, but his Canadian wife, Evi, tweeted late Tuesday that her husband had been detained.<\/p>\n<p>Quaid told The Associated Press he has a deportation order for Tuesday, and Thursday\u2019s hearing is about whether he can remain in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey won\u2019t allow me to remain,\u201d Quaid told the news agency.<\/p>\n<p>Immigration and Refugee Board spokesman Robert Gervais said Quaid will have a detention review hearing before a board member Thursday afternoon, a routine procedure that occurs typically within 48 hours of someone being detained.<\/p>\n<p>A Canada Border Services Agency spokeswoman was unable to provide any further details on Wednesday about the detention.<\/p>\n<p>Quaid, 65, and his wife fled north of the border in 2010, saying they were the victims of persecution.<\/p>\n<p>The couple have sought to stay in Canada and have said they were being hunted by \u201cHollywood star-whackers,\u201d but their arrival in this country came as they faced a number of legal problems in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Santa Barbara Senior Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter said Wednesday there is an active extradition order for Quaid on a felony vandalism case, and prosecutors would be seeking his extradition if he&#8217;s returned to the United States. Carter said Quaid and his wife also face felony charges for failing to appear at a November 2010 court hearing while out on bail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI probably will get arrested for all that. I\u2019m perfectly willing to face all that stuff,\u201d Quaid told The Associated Press. \u201cI would like to have the issues in Santa Barbara resolved so I can move on with my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Quaid was arrested in Montreal last May after becoming the subject of a nationwide arrest warrant when he stopped checking in with the Canada Border Services Agency.<\/p>\n<p>Sporting a massive beard and shoulder-length grey hair, Quaid apologized at a subsequent Immigration and Refugee Board hearing and suggested he was ready to return to the United States to deal with an outstanding legal case and ultimately return to Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Quaid, who has been living in Montreal since January 2013, was released after that arrest.
