MANILA \u2013 Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao, who has also been a boxing icon, basketball coach and businessman, disclosed that he was willing to give up one of his careers to better serve the Filipino people should he be elected as senator in the May 2016 polls.<\/p>\n

Pacquiao noted that he knew how the responsibilities of a nationally-elected senator were bigger than that of a congressman.<\/p>\n

\u201cMalaking responsibilidad. Kailangan mag-focus na sa trabaho kaya nga matagal ako nagdesisyon<\/em>\u2026 Pinag-isipan natin<\/em> \u2018yan<\/em>, kung ano<\/em> \u2018yung i-give-up ko sa mga pinagkakaabalahan ko to focus on serving the people<\/em>,\u201d he said in an Inquirer.net report.<\/p>\n

(It\u2019s a big responsibility. [I] need to focus on the work that\u2019s why it took me a while to decide\u2026 We pondered on that, on what to give up among my activities to focus on serving the people.)<\/p>\n

\u201cKung pag-uusapan natin law<\/em>, mayroon pa bang law na hindi natin naipasa para makaaon ang mga mahihirap<\/em>? Although <\/em>\u2018di ako nakikita sa Kongreso<\/em>, palagi ako sa distrito ko<\/em>. Marami akong nagawa<\/em>. Nag-state of the district address ako<\/em>. Nilatag ko accomplishment ko sa dalawang termino<\/em>. Satisfied naman lahat<\/em>. Masaya sila sa nakita nila<\/em>,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

(If we\u2019ll talk about law, is there a law that we still haven\u2019t passed for the poor to rise from poverty? Although I\u2019m not seen in Congress, I\u2019m always in my district. I\u2019ve done a lot. I had a state of the district address. I reported what I accomplished in two terms. Everyone\u2019s satisfied. They\u2019re all happy.)<\/p>\n

Aside from allotting more time for public service, the Sarangani Representative also vowed to include lowered income taxes and increased workers\u2019 pay in his first bills.<\/p>\n

\u201cIyan ang focus natin<\/em> \u2018pag tayo ay nalagay sa Senado<\/em>, ang pagbaba ng income tax<\/em>, individual income tax at tsaka pag-inrease ng salary ng government employees<\/em>,\u201d he said in a different report.<\/p>\n

(That\u2019s our focus if we get elected in the Senate, the lowering of income tax, individual tax and the increase in the salaries of government employees.)<\/p>\n

Joining the senatorial race in next year\u2019s national elections, Pacquiao has been offered a slot in former Interior Secretary Manuel \u201cMar\u201d Roxas II\u2019 Liberal Party (LP), Vice President Jejomar \u201cJojo\u201d Binay\u2019s United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and Senator Grace Poe\u2019s independent senatorial slates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
