AlDub garnered a record-breaking 5 million tweets for #ALDUBBATTLEForACause.

AlDubNation was in a frenzy during Saturday\u2019s episode of Eat Bulaga as Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza a.k.a. Yaya Dub from the show\u2019s much-anticipated KalyeSerye segment, finally met after their showdown during the \u201cBulaga Pa More\u201d wildcard edition last September 5.<\/p>\n

Fans had been anticipating the pair\u2019s eventual meet up for weeks and suspense had been building as the day of their showdown neared. Both the couple and the fans hopes were quelled, however, with the intervention of Wally Bayola\u2019s character, Lola Nidora, who prevented the two from actually meeting each other up close.<\/p>\n

Attesting to AlDub\u2019s immense popularity, the couple were a hot topic on Twitter, with over 1 million tweets for the episode\u2019s \u00a0#ALDUBBATTLEForACause even before the show began to air.<\/p>\n

The number of tweets rose to 2 million during the Eat Bulaga\u2019s broadcast and reached over 5 million by the end of the day, setting a new record for the highest number of tweets recorded in the Philippines.<\/p>\n

Last Saturday\u2019s record significantly surpassed that of another AlDub hashtag the previous Saturday, #AlDubMaiDenHeaven, which in turn, had exceeded the 3.34 million tweets garnered by the #PapalVisit during Pope Francis\u2019 visit to the Philippines in January 2015.<\/p>\n

GMA Artist Center star Alden Richards, who is also seen on GMA\u2019s comedy-musical variety program Sunday PinaSaya, is grateful for his fans\u2019 overwhelming support. Just recently, the actor\u2019s Twitter account reached an impressive 1 million followers, which Alden immediately acknowledged with a tweet saying, \u201c1Million followers!!! Maraming maraming salamat po!!!\u201d<\/p>\n
