Grace Poe&#8217;s Facebook page)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA &#8212; Unfazed by the recent protests, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima declared yesterday that the preliminary\u00a0\u00a0investigation into criminal charges filed against eight leaders of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC)\u00a0will push through.<\/p>\n<p>De Lima said the complaints filed by several expelled INC members will undergo the &#8220;regular process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>De Lima explained that the investigation being conducted \u00a0\u201cis an occasion where the DOJ performs a ministerial function.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The complaints were filed by Isaias Samson Jr. and his family and by Lito Fruto.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce we receive a complaint, the DOJ has no option but to conduct an investigation,\u201d she said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The complaints \u201cwill be assigned to prosecutors or panels of prosecutors for preliminary investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the assigning, the respondents will then be required to answer the charges raised against them.<\/p>\n<p>They will be asked to\u00a0submit counter-affidavits in subsequent hearings.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutors will then determine whether there is a probable cause\u00a0to warrant the filing of cases in courts.
