MANILA \u2013 Calls for Davao City Mayor Rodrigo \u201cRody\u201d Duterte to join next year\u2019s presidential race continued after a Mindanao-wide caravan was held by his supporters.<\/p>\n

Starting in Cagayan de Oro City with 11 vehicles, the Duterte for President Movement\u2019s convoy drove through the cities of Iligan and Ozamis already with 20 vehicles.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur convoy is becoming longer as we pass cities and towns\u2026 People are lining the streets chanting \u2018Run Duterte, run,\u201d spokesman Oming Maglangit said in a Philippine Star report.<\/p>\n

After the caravan, the Davao City mayor\u2019s supporters planned to hold a \u201cDuterte for President\u201d grand rally on Friday, August 28.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, there have already been rumors that Senator Ferdinand \u201cBongbong\u201d Marcos Jr. was his potential running mate. Marcos, for his part, admitted meeting with PDP-Laban regarding plans of an alliance in 2016.<\/p>\n

A Duterte-Marcos tandem was seen as a strong bid in next year\u2019s general elections with the mayor supported by Visayas and Minadanao and the senator backed by Northern Luzon.<\/p>\n

With PDP-Laban\u2019s support alone, however, Duterte could not secure a win, political party member and former senator Aquilino \u201cNene\u201d Pimentel said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a small party, PDP-Laban needs to form an alliance with another party because it cannot win the presidency all by itself,\u201d Pimentel claimed, adding that the mayor needed to be backed by other parties.<\/p>\n
