MANILA — Defending President Aquino, Malacanang on Wednesday dismissed the allegations of Vice President Jejomar Binay adding that Aquino is not a dictator.<\/p>\n

Binay said that Aquino became a dictator controlling the executive, legislatibe and the judiciary when he allegedly meddled in the impeachment of former Chief Justice Renato Corona.<\/p>\n

Coloma, however, defended the President adding that the Senate even received praises for the fair trial.<\/p>\n

“Mali ang paratang hinggil sa pagiging ‘dictador.’ Alinsunod sa Konstitusyon ang impeachment at conviction ni dating CJ Corona,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a text message to reporters.<\/p>\n

(The allegation on Aquino’s being a ‘dictator’ is wrong. The impeachment and conviction of Chief Justice Corona is according to the Constitution.<\/p>\n

“Umani ng puri ang Senado bilang impeachment court dahil naging patas ang pagdinig. Si dating Senate President (Juan Ponce) Enrile, isang kaalyado ni VP Binay ang namuno sa paglilitis,” Coloma added.<\/p>\n

(The Senate acting as an impeachment court recieved praises for the fair trial. Former Senate President Enrila, an ally of VP Binay led the trial.)<\/p>\n

Coloma also believed\u00a0that using the term ‘dictator’ is ‘too much’ adding that martial law is different from the current form government we currently have.<\/p>\n

“Ang Martial Law po ay mayroong depinisyon sa ating batas at isa po sa pinakamatingkad na manipestasyon ‘yan ay walang kalayaang mamahayag at ang una-unang ginawa \u2018nung Martial Law ay sinarado lahat ng diyaryo at pahayagan,” Coloma said in a press briefing on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

(Martial Law has its own definition in our laws and one of the visible manifestations of that form of government is having no freedom of the press and the first thing that was done during the Martial Law period was to close the newspapers.<\/p>\n
