Government expects rains early next week in Metro Manila and key cities of Luzon but not as intense as downpour the enhanced southwest monsoon or ‘habagat’ recently brought to these areas.

According to forecaster Shaira Nonot from state-run Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the regular – not enhanced – ‘habagat’ will bring rain to the areas as typhoon ‘Falcon’ (international name ‘Chan-Hom’) will already be too far by then to affect this weather system.

“We expect our weather to gradually improve towards next week’s end,” she also said.

There’s no other weather system in the country at present that can either affect ‘habagat’ or cause downpour so improving weather can be expected, she noted.

PAGASA said ‘habagat’ consists of warm moist winds from the southwest.

‘Habagat’ causes rains from May to September particularly over the country’s western portion.

In its outlook released Saturday (July 11), PAGASA forecast for Monday (July 13) a cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms in Metro Manila as well as Tuguegarao, Laoag, Baguio, Olongapo, Angeles, Tagaytay, Lipa, Legazpi and Puerto Princesa cities.

For Tuesday (July 14) and Wednesday (July 15), PAGASA sees the same scenario in these areas except in Legazpi City.

Legazpi City would likely experience on both days partly cloudy to at times cloudy conditions with rain showers and/or thunderstorms, said PAGASA.

PAGASA also forecast such same weather in Puerto Princesa City on Wednesday but said that area would likely experience cloudy skies with rain showers and/or thunderstorms this Tuesday.

MANILA —
