Neri Colmenares expressed his gratitude on Wednesday to the groups and individuals urging him to run for senator in the coming elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thank the groups that encourage me to run in the Senate and I am glad that I am acceptable to diverse groups with diverse political persuasions,\u201d said the senior deputy minority leader in the House of Representatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut how can I make a difference? Many believe that I can make a difference because of my track record in advocating against corruption, pork barrel, high prices of electricity and other pro-people issues. Unlike the other candidates I have actually pre-empted the electricity rate hike through the Supreme Court (SC) temporary restraining order (TRO), and actually battled against the pork barrel system,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He said that he &#8220;is now seriously considering the challenge but a senatorial run requires a lot of resources and we do not have that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Colmenares pointed out that one of the lessons they learned from Teddy&#8217;s [Casino] campaign is the difficulty of a senatorial run without the resources and the support of a slate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The progressive lawmaker is on his third and last term of office representing Bayan Muna in the House.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA &#8212; Bayan Muna Party-list Rep.
