Grace Poe leads the Senate committee hearing on party drugs and drug rehabilitation issues (Facebook photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA &#8212; Senator Grace Poe maintains his stand on being an independent candidate in the 2016 elections.<\/p>\n<p>Following several offers from different political groups, Poe said that she has no plans of joining any party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI kept\u00a0my position that I maintain to be an independent candidate,&#8221; Poe said speaking to reporters on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>This is even when some members of the Liberal Party declared that they will not be endorsing a non-member in next year&#8217;s elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they are not open to a non-LP member, that\u2019s their policy,&#8221; the senator said when asked to comment on LP&#8217;s pronouncements.<\/p>\n<p>Poe also added that President Aquino did not offer her to join the LP during their meeting on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>She also said that she believes that it will be better if she maintains her independence from political parties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that our countrymen will appreciate it more if you maintain your independence. At this point, I think it\u2019s too politically expedient\u00a0just for the upcoming elections to swear in to a particular party,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p>She added that being independent allowed her to freely make a stand on certain issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel my independence has allowed me also to make certain positions without having to be constrained by a particular party. Not that I\u2019m saying that a party is not good but what I\u2019m just saying is that there are certain considerations that it\u2019s better also to remain independent,\u201d\u00a0she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA &#8212; Senator Grace Poe maintains his stand on being an independent candidate in the 2016 elections.
