{"id":51564,"date":"2015-06-10T00:06:46","date_gmt":"2015-06-09T16:06:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=51564"},"modified":"2015-06-10T00:06:46","modified_gmt":"2015-06-09T16:06:46","slug":"bsp-to-public-beware-of-online-scammers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2015\/06\/10\/bsp-to-public-beware-of-online-scammers\/","title":{"rendered":"BSP to public: Beware of online scammers"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_51565\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51565\" style=\"width: 960px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/11053_826647094065788_5467821946467057126_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-51565\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/11053_826647094065788_5467821946467057126_n.jpg\" alt=\"Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (Facebook photo)\" width=\"960\" height=\"638\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/11053_826647094065788_5467821946467057126_n.jpg 960w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/11053_826647094065788_5467821946467057126_n-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/11053_826647094065788_5467821946467057126_n-900x598.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51565\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (Facebook photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA \u2013 The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) reminded the public of the rampant presence of online thieves, targeting personal e-mails to obtain confidential personal and financial information of a user and later on withdraw money, encash checks and make purchases using the stolen identity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPhishing is a form of identity theft whereby someone steals or uses personal or sensitive information of another person without his\/her knowledge or permission, through hacking into one\u2019s personal account, hijacking one\u2019s data and taking over one\u2019s online identity, to commit fraudulent acts\/crimes, or conduct unauthorized business,\u201d BSP said.<\/p>\n<p>BSP warned the public that greetings such as \u201cDear Customer\u201d or \u201cTo Our Valued Client\u201d and organization logos which were authentic-looking were commonly used by e-mail scammers as their hook to victimize.<\/p>\n<p>They will then ask the customer or client to accomplish an \u2018urgent\u2019 task and threaten that \u2018failure to do so will result in account suspension.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe message is usually accompanied by a link that, when clicked, leads to a spoofed or fake website which asks you to input your personal and financial information such as User IDs, passwords and account and personal identification numbers,\u201d BSP said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo avoid being victimized by Phishing scams, do not reply to suspicious e-mails. Ignore and delete the message. Do not click any link in a suspicious message.
