(Photo from Asean&#8217;s website)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Chinese manufacturers are considering Southeast Asian countries as ideal locations for their factories and operations with Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar\u2019s low-cost labor; Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam\u2019s cost-effective business; and Malaysia and Singapore\u2019s high-value manufacturers.<\/p>\n<p>Even more, China and Asean countries complement each other in the production chain, rather than compete with one another. The countries\u2019 attractive policies also serve as incentives to the businessmen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTake cotton yarn for instance. The raw materials are processed in Southeast Asia and then repurchased by Chinese businesses,\u201d Chinese chamber\u2019s secretary-general Zhang Xi\u2019an said.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, more Chinese manufacturers are planning of establishing companies in Asean countries. \u00a0Moreover, Chinese industry players are now planning to visit Asean countries next month to explore more business opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>In the next 10 to 15 years, Asean may become the \u2018world\u2019s factory,\u2019 as perceived by economists due to the region\u2019s young workforce and strategic location.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe policy makers have put the building blocks and framework in place. The call goes out now to companies to make the region a focal point of their growth plan and pursue an Asean-centric strategy,\u201d Maybank Kim Eng Group chief executive officer John Chong said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsean\u2019s time has come.
