Depending on the requirements and the take-up on the prepaid service, we will have to go back to the ERC for additional meters if necessary,\u201d Dela Pena told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>She noted the distribution utility targets to use 40,000 prepaid meters by the end of 2015 and another 100,000 by next year.<\/p>\n<p>The 40,000 meters was already approved by the ERC, while the other 100,000 to be availed by the National Housing Authority (NHA) is still pending.<\/p>\n<p>She stressed the rollout of the smart prepaid meters is part of Meralco\u2019s smart grid strategy for automated metering.<\/p>\n<p>On April 27, the ERC decided that Meralco\u2019s application follows the provisions of the Prepaid Retail Electricity Service (PRES) rules.<\/p>\n<p>It backs Meralco\u2019s commercial roll-out of \u201cKuryente Load\u201d to more sites within its franchise, having been launched in the City of Manila, some parts of Angono, Taytay and Cainta, Rizal.<\/p>\n<p>The ERC has also approved the Advanced Metering Infrastructure Integrated Solution (AMI-IS) that will allow customers to monitor electricity consumption, balance, loading history and account information.<\/p>\n<p>Meralco pointed out the retail rates for the prepaid electricity will be the postpaid retail rate at the particular month the credited load was consumed.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cKuryente Load\u201d program would also contribute to the increase of the distribution utility\u2019s capex from Php 13.5-14.5 billion this year, according to Meralco President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Oscar Reyes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA \u2013 The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) will file for emergency capital expenditures to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) upon &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":48659,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1482,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-50929","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-breaking","category-news-ph","mauthors-juzel-l-danganan","mauthors-philippines-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/50929","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=50929"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/50929\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/48659"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=50929"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=50929"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=50929"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
