{"id":50024,"date":"2015-05-21T20:06:47","date_gmt":"2015-05-21T12:06:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=50024"},"modified":"2015-05-21T20:06:47","modified_gmt":"2015-05-21T12:06:47","slug":"air-canada-about-to-start-checking-to-ensure-carry-on-bags-meet-regulations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2015\/05\/21\/air-canada-about-to-start-checking-to-ensure-carry-on-bags-meet-regulations\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Canada about to start checking to ensure carry on bags meet regulations"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_50114\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-50114\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/shutterstock_139439024.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-50114\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/shutterstock_139439024.jpg\" alt=\"Air Canada (ValeStock \/ Shutterstock)\" width=\"1000\" height=\"615\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/shutterstock_139439024.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/shutterstock_139439024-300x185.jpg 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/shutterstock_139439024-900x554.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-50114\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Air Canada (ValeStock \/ Shutterstock)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>TORONTO &#8212; With the busy summer travel season set to take flight, Air Canada is about to begin clamping down on carry-on baggage to ensure it meets regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Starting next Monday at Toronto&#8217;s Pearson International Airport, airline staff will be stationed at both check-in and security checkpoints to ensure carry-on bags meet size and weight requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Bags that meet the airline&#8217;s carry-on dimensions will receive a red tag, which the airline says will help reduce wait times at security and &#8220;help avoid flight delays caused by larger bags being checked at the gate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Air Canada says carry-on bags which exceed the regulations will need to be checked and &#8220;standard fees will apply.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The airline says if passengers get to security and need to check a bag that exceeds size limits, they will receive a special card to get quickly back to a check-in agent, and then on to the departure gate.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Canada rules allow passengers to carry on two unchecked items.<\/p>\n<p>Air Canada specifies that a personal item can include a backpack, briefcase or laptop computer measuring up to 16 by 33 by 43 centimetres and a standard item such as a suitcase measuring up to 23 by 40 by 55 centimetres including wheels and handles.<\/p>\n<p>Those travelling with an infant on their lap can carry on an additional standard article.<\/p>\n<p>The airline began charging a $25 checked-bag fee last fall on its lowest-class domestic flights and on flights to and from the Caribbean and Mexico.
