{"id":48878,"date":"2015-05-11T12:58:37","date_gmt":"2015-05-11T04:58:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=48878"},"modified":"2015-05-11T12:58:37","modified_gmt":"2015-05-11T04:58:37","slug":"dotc-to-allow-app-based-services-to-operate-in-phl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2015\/05\/11\/dotc-to-allow-app-based-services-to-operate-in-phl\/","title":{"rendered":"DOTC to allow app-based services to operate in PHL"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_48894\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48894\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/shutterstock_271665851.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-48894 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/shutterstock_271665851.jpg\" alt=\"shutterstock\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/shutterstock_271665851.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/shutterstock_271665851-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/shutterstock_271665851-900x600.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-48894\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">eskay \/ shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANLA &#8212; The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is set to publish new categories of public transport conveyances to allow app-based services to operate in the country later this week.<\/p>\n<p>DOTC Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya said that this development is an effort to modernize transportation services and usher in the conveniences offered by technological innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Under the Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) classification, DOTC will allow app-based services offered by Transportation Network Companies (TNC) to exist within our regulatory framework.<\/p>\n<p>Abaya has earlier called for collaborative efforts between DOTC, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and TNCs to formulate updated classification policies.<\/p>\n<p>A TNC is defined as an organization that provides pre-arranged transportation services for compensation using an internet-based technology application or a digital platform technology to connect passengers with drivers using their personal vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>TNCs will also provide the public with online-enabled transportation services known as a TNVS, which will connect drivers with ride-seekers through an app.<\/p>\n<p>Abaya said that many people appreciate the safe and convenient services offered by the TNVS category.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe view technological innovation as a driver for progress, especially in transportation where it can provide safer and more convenient commuting options to the public,\u201d Abaya said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApp-based transport services help address the increasing demand for mobility spurred by rapid urbanization,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, DOTC is also imposing certain standards for vehicle eligibility, such as the requirement of global positioning system (GPS) tracking and navigation devices for convenient and safer services.<\/p>\n<p>DOTC noted that only sedans, Asian Utility Vehicles (AUV), Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV), vans, or other similar vehicles will be allowed.
