MANILA — Senator\u00a0Pro Tempore\u00a0Ralph Recto is offering P100,000 to reward a pool that he wants the government to create in order to ensure the immediate capture of the people behind the killing of former journalist, Mei Magsino.<\/p>\n

\u201cI strongly condemn the murder of Mei Magsino who gave Batangue\u00f1os an image of what a crusading and\u00a0courageous journalist should be,\u201d\u00a0Recto said in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a member of the press, Mei practiced her craft with guts and grit, her prose and insight as sharp as balisong, which she used to peel\u00a0the falsehoods which hid the truth, and prick the conscience of the people and the ego of the powerful,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Magsino, who was killed in Batangas City in Monday, was a correspondent of the Philippine Daily Inquirer for six years.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe died with her boots on, comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable to the end, and it was her desire\u00a0to search for and speak out the truth which led her\u00a0enemies to cowardly censor her forever,\u201d the senator said.<\/p>\n

Though she left the Inquirer in 2005 and she was not affiliated with a media organization when she died, Recto said, it did not prevent her from continuously reporting the truth.<\/p>\n
