{"id":46177,"date":"2015-04-02T18:12:25","date_gmt":"2015-04-02T10:12:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=46177"},"modified":"2015-04-02T18:12:25","modified_gmt":"2015-04-02T10:12:25","slug":"alberta-govt-buys-four-tvs-for-13000-wildrose-calls-it-wasteful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2015\/04\/02\/alberta-govt-buys-four-tvs-for-13000-wildrose-calls-it-wasteful\/","title":{"rendered":"Alberta gov&#8217;t buys four TVs for $13,000; Wildrose calls it &#8216;wasteful&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/TV-television-remote-control.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23977\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/TV-television-remote-control.jpg\" alt=\"TV television remote control\" width=\"1000\" height=\"665\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/TV-television-remote-control.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/TV-television-remote-control-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/TV-television-remote-control-600x399.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>EDMONTON &#8212; The Alberta government is coming under fire for spending $13,000 on four 80-inch televisions.<\/p>\n<p>The province says the new screens are needed because ministers hold a lot of video conferences.<\/p>\n<p>Premier Jim Prentice says the government currently has older, 65-inch television screens but they no longer work.<\/p>\n<p>He says they kept having to reschedule meetings as a result.<\/p>\n<p>Wildrose MLA Shayne Saskiw calls it &#8220;end of March madness&#8221; and a &#8220;wasteful expense.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He says it demonstrates the government&#8217;s aura of entitlement to think this would be acceptable to Albertans so soon after the announcement that taxes are being raised.<\/p>\n<p>Prentice insists the $13,000 purchase will save the government money in the long run.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We sold the government airplanes and we don&#8217;t fly people around, we&#8217;re trying to avoid even driving to move all the ministers in cabinet from Edmonton to Calgary or vice versa for a meeting,&#8221; said Prentice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The cost of these video screens will be paid for in basically the money that&#8217;s saved on a couple of cabinet meetings because we&#8217;re trying to fly people around a lot less.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Two of the new screens will be installed inside meeting rooms in the Federal Building; the others will go into the cabinet rooms in the legislature and the McDougall Centre in Calgary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EDMONTON &#8212; The Alberta government is coming under fire for spending $13,000 on four 80-inch televisions.
