Not-guilty pleas have been entered for both men.<\/p>\n<p>The trial heard Monday that a rift in the relationship between two suspects seemed to appear as they began hammering out the finer details of their alleged plot.<\/p>\n<p>The trial has been hearing secret audio recordings of conversations the men had with an undercover FBI agent who gained their trust while posing as a wealthy American businessman with radical views.<\/p>\n<p>The trial heard that while scouting a railway bridge outside Toronto, Jaser appears to express his doubts to the undercover agent in a moment when Esseghaier isn&#8217;t around.<\/p>\n<p>Esseghaier, however, is animated at the thought of the plan progressing, and suggests using a high intensity torch to damage the bridge.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged plan was to derail a train by targeting a railway bridge in December 2012, court has heard.<\/p>\n<p>Videos of the scouting trip the three men made to the bridge in late September &#8212; which were played in court &#8212; show a large metal structure, with two railway tracks and a shallow waterway beneath.<\/p>\n<p>Jaser, Esseghaier and the undercover officer are seen walking along the railway tracks to the bridge and are then observed standing on the railway bridge, examining the structure.<\/p>\n<p>Jaser and Esseghaier were arrested in April 2013.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TORONTO &#8212; Testimony continues today in a Toronto courtroom at the trial of two men accused of plotting to derail &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":8486,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1482,18],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-41711","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-breaking","category-news-ca","mauthors-the-canadian-press1"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/41711","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=41711"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/41711\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/8486"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=41711"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=41711"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=41711"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
