{"id":40046,"date":"2015-01-27T19:00:59","date_gmt":"2015-01-27T11:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=40046"},"modified":"2015-01-27T19:00:59","modified_gmt":"2015-01-27T11:00:59","slug":"ilijan-gas-plant-ordered-to-run-on-liquid-fuel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2015\/01\/27\/ilijan-gas-plant-ordered-to-run-on-liquid-fuel\/","title":{"rendered":"Ilijan gas plant ordered to run on liquid fuel"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_34133\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34133\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_180605156.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-34133\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_180605156-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"shutterstock\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_180605156-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_180605156-900x675.jpg 900w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_180605156.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34133\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA &#8212; Ilijan natural gas-fired plant was required by the Depatment of Energy to run on liquid fuel from March 15 to April 15 in order to provide the much-needed power for the Luzon grid come summer.<\/p>\n<p>The 1,200 megawatt plant along with two other gas facilities including the 1,000-MW Santa Rita and 500-MW San Lorenzo plants, are getting their power from the Malampaya gas field in offshore Palawan.<\/p>\n<p>Ilijan plant, operated by Kepco Philippines will need to go on maintenance shutdown when the Malampaya also shuts down for maintenance works, making it the company&#8217;s first time to shift to liquid fuel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of the very tight supply, if they have to conduct maintenance, (they would have to) defer it and run because we need the additional capacity,\u201d DOE Undersecretary Zenaida Monsada said.<\/p>\n<p>She added that the cleaning process of the plant may also cause it to require additional downtime using bio diesel.<\/p>\n<p>When this happens, more power generation loss may occur.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of the very tight supply, if they have to conduct maintenance, (they would have to) defer it and run because we need the additional capacity,\u201d DOE Undersecretary Zenaida Monsada said.<\/p>\n<p>She also reiterated that the problem is not with the engine but with the reverting of the machines to the use of gas which will require them to clean the line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no problem in the engine, it is designed to run on both fuel. The problem is when they revert back to gas, they have to clean the line.
