WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg high school teacher who’s being accused of making racist comments on his Facebook page is now on unpaid leave.<\/p>\n

Brad Badiuk had been on paid leave from Kelvington high school since the Facebook postings became public on Dec. 8.<\/p>\n

The comments, posted under Badiuk’s account, accused First Nations people of being lazy and seeking free money from non-aboriginals.<\/p>\n

Some of the comments were directed specifically at Nepinak and suggested he wanted to “get his hands” on other people’s money.<\/p>\n

The Winnipeg School Division has not publicly identified the teacher or the teacher’s school.<\/p>\n

School board chairman Mark Wasyliw said Wednesday that an internal investigation “progressed to the point where a decision was made that the staff member would no longer be on paid leave.”<\/p>\n

Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Grand Chief Derek Nepinak filed a lawsuit against Badiuk earlier this month alleging defamation against an entire race of people.<\/p>\n

The Manitoba Teachers’ Society would not comment Wednesday on the change from paid to unpaid leave.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
