{"id":37750,"date":"2015-01-08T16:24:57","date_gmt":"2015-01-08T08:24:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=37750"},"modified":"2015-01-08T16:24:57","modified_gmt":"2015-01-08T08:24:57","slug":"abad-ph-gdp-increased-by-6-7-in-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2015\/01\/08\/abad-ph-gdp-increased-by-6-7-in-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Abad: PH GDP increased by 6-7% in 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_35066\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35066\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_157841786.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-35066 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_157841786-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"shutterstock_157841786\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_157841786-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_157841786-900x600.jpg 900w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_157841786.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35066\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shutterstock Photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA \u2013 Budget Secretary Florencio Abad on Wednesday announced that the Philippine economy grew by 6-7 percent last year because of feeble government spending.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that the country\u2019s economic managers decided to retain the gross domestic product (GDP) target for this year at 7-8 percent, lower than their previous projection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do have challenges that we need to deal with, some beyond our control,\u201d Abad pointed out referring to external challenges which include global oil prices cut back and slower economies of trading partners.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that the \u201cdramatic decrease\u201d in oil prices will affect the Bureau of Customs\u2019 (BOC) tax collection.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, BOC Commissioner John Philip Sevilla said that their collection targets would not be attained due to low oil prices.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from that, slower public spending last year will still be a trend until 2016, claimed Abad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was difficulty in getting key spending agencies to disburse according to program,\u201d said Abad referring to the issues that affected country\u2019s budget which include the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) and Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).<\/p>\n<p>Without the PDAF and DAP, spending went down by 1-1.5 percent, Abad said.
