Escaros Jr.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA &#8212; Militant, labor and commuter groups on Monday filed a petition before the Supreme Court (SC) seeking to stop the implementation of fare increases at the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and the Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 (LRT-1 and LRT-2).<\/p>\n<p>MRT-3 stretches from EDSA-Taft Avenue, Pasay City to North Avenue, Quezon City; LRT-1 stretches from Baclaran, Paranaque City to Roosevelt, Quezon City and LRT-2 passes through from Recto, Manila to Santolan, Pasig City.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioners are the militant Bayan group, including the labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) and the Riles Network commuter groups.<\/p>\n<p>In their 58-page petition for certiorari, the petitioners asked the SC to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) to stop the implementation of the order of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) allowing the fare increases at the LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioners also asked the SC to declare such DOTC order as &#8220;illegal and unconstitutional&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>They argued that the assailed DOTC order violates the &#8220;Public Service Act&#8221; and the &#8220;Rules of Court&#8221; because of the failure of the DOTC to conduct a public hearing where the basis of the fare hike and how the computation was made which should have been presented first.<\/p>\n<p>They further argued that the DOTC committed grave abuse of discretion and its order was &#8220;invalid&#8221; because it was not published in a newspaper of general circulation or official gazette and without the benefit of a public hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA &#8212; Militant, labor and commuter groups on Monday filed a petition before the Supreme Court (SC) seeking to stop &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":37511,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1482,1145,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-37430","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-breaking","category-headline","category-news-ph","mauthors-perfecto-t-raymundo-jr","mauthors-philippines-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/37430","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=37430"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/37430\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/37511"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=37430"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=37430"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=37430"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
