Strauss was bestowed the title on Sunday night, at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre in London. She succeeds Philippine beauty Megan Young in bearing the title of Miss World.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;South Africa this is for you,\u201d Strauss said, as the pronouncement was made.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think I will brace myself for what&#8217;s about to happen. It&#8217;s a huge responsibility,\u201d the 22-year old medical student added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Young \u2013 who acted as host of the event \u2013 expressed her hopes that the new Miss World would carry the title with joy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hope Miss South Africa enjoys her year as much as I did,&#8221; Young said; even as she advised Strauss to \u201cbe ready for challenges, be ready for anything that comes your way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Edina Kulcsar of Hungary came in as first runner-up, while the United States&#8217; Elizabeth Safrit placed third.<\/p>\n<p>The Philippines\u2019 bet, Valerie Weigmann made the cut for Top 25, but fell short of the Top 10 in the\u00a0 semifinals of the contest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Miss World 2014 results are in, and the crown has been given to Rolene Strauss of South Africa.
