This suggests that the\u00a0other four were simply racially profiled.<\/p>\n<p>One of these people was Lucia Vega Jim\u00e9nez, who later committed suicide in\u00a0a detention center. At the coroner&#8217;s inquest into her death, a transit<br \/>\npolice officer testified that he turned Lucia over to CBSA, in part,<br \/>\nbecause Lucia had an accent and that he believed \u201cshe wasn\u2019t originally<br \/>\nfrom Canada.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTogether, the research shows that the surveillance of public<br \/>\ntransportation is well underway, with Transit Police happily collaborating<br \/>\nwith the CBSA in order to enforce immigration law,\u201d says Omar Chu, of<br \/>\nTransportation Not Deportation!, a new committee working on combating the\u00a0growing role of transit police in the deportation of migrants.<\/p>\n<p>Transit Police\u2019s own report similarly notes that \u201cTransit Police<br \/>\nrepresented a significant proportion of the Police Agency referrals to the<br \/>\nCBSA offices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Press release courtesy of No One Is Illegal &#8211; Vancouver.
