{"id":34132,"date":"2014-12-06T16:38:36","date_gmt":"2014-12-06T08:38:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=34132"},"modified":"2014-12-06T16:38:36","modified_gmt":"2014-12-06T08:38:36","slug":"typhoon-ruby-cuts-off-power-in-northern-samar-eastern-samar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2014\/12\/06\/typhoon-ruby-cuts-off-power-in-northern-samar-eastern-samar\/","title":{"rendered":"Typhoon &#8220;Ruby&#8221; cuts off power in Northern Samar, Eastern Samar"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_34133\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34133\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_180605156.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-34133\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_180605156.jpg\" alt=\"shutterstock\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_180605156.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_180605156-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/shutterstock_180605156-900x675.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34133\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA &#8212; The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said power in Northern Samar and Eastern Samar went down Saturday, as typhoon &#8220;Ruby&#8221; passed the area.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;NGCP&#8217;s power transmission service in Northern Samar is affected by typhoon Ruby due to the tripping at 12:12 p.m. of the 69kV Palanas cara-Catarman-Bobolosan\/Allen lines transmitting power to the NORSAMELCO,&#8221; it said Saturday on its twitter account.<\/p>\n<p>Also, &#8220;NGCP&#8217;s power transmission service in Eastern Samar is affected by typhoon Ruby due to the tripping at 11:04 a.m. of the 69kV Taft Feeder transmitting power to the ESAMELCO,&#8221; NGCP said Saturday on its twitter account.<\/p>\n<p>The nation&#8217;s grid operator said restoration measures will start as soon as the weather permits.<\/p>\n<p>Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla, in a radio interview, said Saturday that distribution lines, which source power from transmission lines, may topple along the path of typhoon &#8220;Ruby&#8221; due to its vulnerability.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Depends on distribution lines, if they are old, then there is a possibility that it will fall,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the energy head expressed worry on the temporary structures that provide grid connections in Cebu, Samar, Leyte and Panay, since permanent structures folded to typhoon &#8220;Yolanda&#8221; last year, but not as sturdy compared to permanent ones.<\/p>\n<p>Petilla said that permanent structures take a year to be completed.<\/p>\n<p>Further, the Energy Secretary said that he does not expect the typhoon to cause a total devastation upon the electrical facilities and equipment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;However, the good thing about this, upon reaching 150 kilometers per hour (kph) &#8211; 160 kph this is not a total devastation&#8230; If it reaches 200, it will topple,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Petilla said the Department of Energy (DOE) is prepared to restore power to the grid, as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know the situation already, so we are ready to restore the falling towers.
