{"id":34041,"date":"2014-12-05T22:00:24","date_gmt":"2014-12-05T14:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=34041"},"modified":"2014-12-05T22:00:24","modified_gmt":"2014-12-05T14:00:24","slug":"purisima-placed-under-six-mos-preventive-suspension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2014\/12\/05\/purisima-placed-under-six-mos-preventive-suspension\/","title":{"rendered":"Purisima placed under six mos preventive suspension"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_26693\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26693\" style=\"width: 220px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/220px-PDDG-Purisima.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-26693\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/220px-PDDG-Purisima.jpg\" alt=\"Alan Purisima (Wikipedia photo)\" width=\"220\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-26693\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alan Purisima (Wikipedia photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA \u2013 The Office of the Ombudsman has placed Director General Alan Purisima under a six-month preventive suspension because of an allegedly anomalous contract with a courier service for the delivery of PNP-issued gun licenses.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time in the history of the police force, a PNP chief was suspended because of corruption allegations.<\/p>\n<p>The allegation rooted from the alleged multimillion-peso contract awarded to Werfast Documentation Agency Inc., for the delivery of gun owners\u2019 licenses.<\/p>\n<p>The suspension order was issued by Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales for Purisima et al. while another suspension order without pay was issued to 13 other PNP officials for the alleged sale of AK-47 assault rifles to the communist New People\u2019s Army rebels in Mindanao.<\/p>\n<p>The said PNP officials allegedly \u201csiphoned off the mandatory delivery fees\u201d collected from gun owners for the delivery of their gun licenses, according to the Ombudsman\u2019s Fact-finding Investigation Bureau.<\/p>\n<p>The bureau added that a memorandum of agreement (MOA) was entered into by the PNP and the Werfast, \u201cdespite its nonaccreditation and having been incorporated only after the execution of the MOA, with a capitalization of only P65,000.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs per records of the Department of Science and Technology\u2013Postal Regulation Committee, Werfast is not accredited to engage in courier services in the country,\u201d the Ombudsman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were no records to show that Werfast established an online facility for applications for renewal of firearms license,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Purisima was out of the country upon the release of the suspension order.
