Photo courtesy of Malacanang Photo Bureau.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA \u2013 Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz recently said that the government will be extending necessary assistance to the families of the 10 Filipino seafarers who were reported missing at sea.<\/p>\n<p>The seafarers were on board the Korean fishing vessel, \u201cOriong 501,\u201d which was reported to have been hit by a big wave and sunk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Overseas Workers\u2019 Welfare Administration (OWWA) will extend all necessary assistance to the seafarers and their families in this time of a tragedy,\u201d she said in an interview during her visit to the six countries comprising the Gulf Cooperation council in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n<p>Baldoz flew to the place to award the Filipino domestic workers who completed their skills training courses under the \u201cBalik-Pinay Balik-Hanapbuhay\u201d Project, with livelihood starter kits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are hoping the missing Filipino sailors are safe and will be found soon,\u201d Baldoz said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, OWWA chief Rebecca Calzado was also instructed to arrange for the counseling of the families of the seafarers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe three Filipino seafarers who were rescued are on their way to South Korea where they will be requested by the Korean maritime authorities to provide information regarding the accident,\u201d Hans Leo Cacdac, Philippine Overseas Employment Agency Administrator, reported.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the survivors will be placed in a mandatory post-employment medical examination to ensure that they have not sustained any injury during the sinking of the vessel.<\/p>\n<p>A compensation equal to one-month basic salary for loss of employment, compensation for loss of personal effects due to marine peril, and the balance of wages consisting of earned wages and leave pay will also be given to the survivors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA \u2013 Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz recently said that the government will be extending necessary assistance to the &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":7430,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-33991","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news-ph","mauthors-lei-fontamillas","mauthors-philippine-canadian-inquirer"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/33991","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=33991"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/33991\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/7430"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=33991"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=33991"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=33991"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
