{"id":32234,"date":"2014-11-18T09:29:57","date_gmt":"2014-11-18T01:29:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=32234"},"modified":"2014-11-20T09:33:07","modified_gmt":"2014-11-20T01:33:07","slug":"govt-urged-to-appoint-port-czar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2014\/11\/18\/govt-urged-to-appoint-port-czar\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t urged to appoint \u2018port czar\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_17131\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17131\" style=\"width: 259px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/manila-port.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17131\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/manila-port.jpg\" alt=\"Wikipedia Photo of Manila's overcrowded port\" width=\"259\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17131\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wikipedia Photo of Manila&#8217;s overcrowded port<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA \u2013 Private sector representatives are now urging the government to appoint a \u201cport czar\u201d who would look after the port problems in the country including smuggling and traffic jams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly one person should handle port congestion and other problems, and this should be a port czar,\u201d said Noemi Saludo, chairman emeritus of the Port Users Confederation (PUC), one of the Ports Summit convenors.<\/p>\n<p>The summit, attended by the government and private sector representatives was held to analyze the country\u2019s port problems and create possible solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Cited as one of the many ways to address the port congestion, the private sectors noted that appointing a \u201cport czar\u201d may be better than \u201calways blaming the truck ban.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thought, maybe somebody should handle this because they are always blaming the truck ban,\u201d Saludo said.<\/p>\n<p>She added that the truck ban is only among the reasons causing the congestion at the ports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut what is happening inside?
