{"id":31792,"date":"2014-11-16T15:44:39","date_gmt":"2014-11-16T07:44:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=31792"},"modified":"2014-11-16T22:54:39","modified_gmt":"2014-11-16T14:54:39","slug":"senate-inspects-overpriced-makati-science-high-school-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2014\/11\/16\/senate-inspects-overpriced-makati-science-high-school-building\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate inspects \u2018overpriced\u2019 Makati Science High School building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Trillanes-Pimentel-Makati-Science-High-School-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-31749\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Trillanes-Pimentel-Makati-Science-High-School-2-300x216.jpg\" alt=\"Trillanes Pimentel Makati Science High School 2\" width=\"300\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Trillanes-Pimentel-Makati-Science-High-School-2-300x216.jpg 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Trillanes-Pimentel-Makati-Science-High-School-2-1024x740.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Trillanes-Pimentel-Makati-Science-High-School-2-900x650.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>MANILA \u2013 The Senate Blue Ribbon committee led by Senators Koko Pimentel and Antonio Trillanes inspected the allegedly overpriced Makati Science High School (MSHS) building on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>An onsite inspection was conducted by the two senators with several experts, the building engineer, the city administrator, and the school principal, Evangelina Apolinario.<\/p>\n<p>The two senators, however said in a press briefing that they have yet to determine the cost of the building which was initially estimated at P1.33 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The said price is inclusive of the structure only and the equipments inside the building is still not included in the computation.<\/p>\n<p>The construction of the building\u2019s upper three floors is still currently ongoing, according to Pimentel.<\/p>\n<p>As of the moment, only the basement and the first seven floors of the 10-storey building are operational.<\/p>\n<p>A 20-room dormitory which can accommodate a total of 240 students is located in the eighth floor of the building while the upper two floors is where the auditorium is located.<\/p>\n<p>While the said building was allegedly overpriced, Pimentel said he was somehow satisfied with the quality of the structure.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Well compared to the other government buildings I&#8217;ve been to, I&#8217;m satisfied with what I&#8217;ve seen. Sa tingin ko &#8212; I&#8217;m not an engineer ha, I&#8217;m a laywer &#8212; mukha namang matibay. Yung staircases, mukha namang safe sa mga bata,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>(I think \u2013 though I\u2019m not an engineer, I\u2019m a lawyer \u2013 the structure looks sturdy. The staircases seemed safe for the students.)<\/p>\n<p>Trillanes, however said that while the building looks sturdy, the need to investigate the price of the building still remains.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The building itself, by observation, maganda naman (is quite good). Pero ang tanong dito (But the question is): Did we pay the right price?
