Hustvedt \/ Wikimedia Commons.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>CALGARY\u2014A man who was a resident at an assisted living complex for single men with mental health and addictions issues was shot and killed by police.<\/p>\n<p>Calgary Police Chief Rick Hanson says the officer involved in the shooting at Lanigan Place has been on the force for the last four years.<\/p>\n<p>Hanson said officers knocked on the door of the man\u2019s apartment early Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The chief says the man opened the door and produced what appeared to be a firearm and that\u2019s when two shots went off.<\/p>\n<p>Hanson was limited in what he could say because of the investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, which investigates police shootings.<\/p>\n<p>ASIRT acting executive director Susan Hughson said a realistic-looking BB gun was found near the man\u2019s body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPreliminary investigation has revealed that a Carl Walther Model PPK\/S BB gun was located near the deceased man,\u201d said Sue Hughson.<\/p>\n<p>One resident told police he was being threatened by another person with a gun.
