Photo courtesy of Cayetano&#8217;s Facebook page.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA \u2013 By accusing the \u2018rich\u2019 of waging war against a \u201cpoor man\u201d like himself, Vice President Jejomar Binay is now in a \u201cpanic mode,\u201d according to Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s in a panic mode. Like someone gasping for breath\u2026 he\u2019s trying to read all the political books and all the strategies used by other politicians, and applying them to himself, although they do not apply,\u201d Cayetano told reporters on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The statement was made following Binay\u2019s accusations in a radio interview describing what he termed as his opponents plot to remove him from office as a political war waged by the rich against the poor.<\/p>\n<p>Cayetano, however, ironically said that contrary to his claims, the Vice President still attends parties with the rich, regarding them as among his financial backers.<\/p>\n<p>Binay has been denying allegations of corruption and ill-gotten wealth raised against him through a senate inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>Binay was accused of receiving kickbacks from infrastructure deals during his term as the Makati City Mayor.<\/p>\n<p>He was also accused of owning a P1.2 billion high-end farm in Batangas province, a property which he is allegedly hiding through his dummy owners.<\/p>\n<p>Not convinced of Binay\u2019s statements, Cayetano said that Binay\u2019s move is part of the \u201cdrama,\u201d similar to what President Joseph Estrada did when accused of corruption in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s trying to do an Erap,\u201d the senator said.<\/p>\n<p>Cayetano added that the Binay\u2019s only difference with former President and now Manila Mayor Estrada, was that Estrada\u2019s pronouncement was on the record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether you believe President Erap\u2019s statement or not, that\u2019s on the record.
