{"id":29856,"date":"2014-10-27T12:08:24","date_gmt":"2014-10-27T04:08:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=29856"},"modified":"2014-10-27T19:18:01","modified_gmt":"2014-10-27T11:18:01","slug":"binay-denies-owning-exotic-birds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2014\/10\/27\/binay-denies-owning-exotic-birds\/","title":{"rendered":"Binay denies owning exotic birds"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_26563\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26563\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Jejomar-Jojo-Binay.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-26563\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Jejomar-Jojo-Binay-300x205.jpg\" alt=\"Vice President Jejomar 'Jojo' Binay (Facebook photo)\" width=\"300\" height=\"205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Jejomar-Jojo-Binay-300x205.jpg 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Jejomar-Jojo-Binay.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-26563\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vice President Jejomar &#8216;Jojo&#8217; Binay (Facebook photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA \u2013 Aside from the controversial farm estate, Vice President Jejomar Binay denied owning an aviary with selection of rare birds under the name of his daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Based on records from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), as of 2006, Makati Representative Abigail Binay owns about 56 heads of rare birds in Batangas province.<\/p>\n<p>The collection includes the following species: Victoria crowned pigeon, common emerald dove, Luzon bleeding-heart, green imperial pigeon, mallard, island collared dove, helmeted guineafowl, Alexandrine parakeet, blossom-headed parakeet, silver pheasant, mute swan, black-necked swan, white peafowl, Indian peafowl, red and black parrot, and white pigeon.<\/p>\n<p>The younger Binay has been given a certificate of wildlife registration to keep the birds in an aviary in Barangay Maligaya in Rosario, Batangas.<\/p>\n<p>According to Batangas Environment Officer Jose Elmer Basos, the records of Binay with DENR are until 2006 only.<br \/>\n\u201cThey (wildlife owners) should submit a quarterly update (of the birds in their possession) or if these were disposed of already,\u201d said Bascos. \u201cThere were no updates submitted [after 2006],\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the DENR sent a representative to the farm but was refused entry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe caretaker said he did not have a permission from his boss to let our men in,\u201d Bascos said. \u201cThey did not say who their boss is,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>According to Czarina Quintanilla, Sunchamp was open to inspection of its agri-tourism park from representatives of different government agencies if it the investigation is \u201cdone in accordance with the law and due process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe company categorically states that there are no endangered or restricted birds in the aviary,\u201d Quintanilla said in a text message on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>She added, \u201cIt would appear that the threats made on the company are now materializing, but the company still hopes that the government will not be used for and, in fact, protect private business from partisan politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, former Makati City Vice Mayor Ernesto Maceda said that the estate was owned by Vice President Binay through dummies at Agri-Fortuna.<\/p>\n<p>The Vice President\u2019s camp said that Binay only leased the property for its hog-raising business under JCB Farms.
